Abstract

Does thinking about an experiential purchase (rather than a material purchase) have downstream cognitive consequences beyond mere differences in happiness? Consistent with previous theorizing, two studies demonstrated two such effects: participants who spent time reflecting on an experiential purchase adopted a more global mindset, and processed self-relevant stimuli more quickly.
