Abstract

We find responsive chatbots are perceived as kinder and more trustworthy than interrogative chatbots. While no main effect emerged for agent gender, participants low on independence found female agents less charismatic than male agents. Moreover, participants reported higher positive affect after interacting with responsive than interrogative agents.
