Abstract
Individuals reported being more likely to respond passively when witnessing intimate partner violence that had unexpected elements that created ambiguity (i.e., female perpetrator, psychological aggression). They reported being more likely to respond actively (e.g., directly intervening) when witnessing more “expected” incidents such as those involving male perpetrators of physical aggression.
