Abstract

Researchers analyzed training records and original data of two captive bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) during an innovate task developed by the National Aquarium in Baltimore Maryland. Both dolphins demonstrated an understanding of “do something different”. Although the reinforcement criteria rewarded “different” behaviors, novel behavior emerged in both dolphins’ behavioral repertoire.
