Advice-Giving Helps Advisors Reason More Wisely about Social Dilemmas

Drawing on theories from adult development and social cognition, we propose that advice-giving can help advisors reason more wisely about a problem. In three experiments with recalled situations and standardized scenarios, participants who gave advice about a social dilemma reasoned more wisely than those who thought about the problem alone.
