Abstract

We examined and categorized 81 South Korean and U.S. 3- and 4-year-olds’ (35 female, 46 male) preferred toys (pretend, sport, construction/number-based, literacy/art). More U.S. than Korean children preferred literacy/art toys, while Korean children marginally preferred construction/number-based toys. Korean children, especially boys, preferred spatial toys that encourage physical transformations and construction.
