Abstract

Inconsistent findings whether social support buffers negative effects of stress led us to the assumption, that the implicit affiliation motive acts as a moderator. We experimentally induced social support (N = 51) and found that high affiliation motivated people benefit more from social support in terms of well-being and motivation.
