Cross-Cultural Differences in Spontaneous Trait and Situation Inferences: An Eye-Tracing Study

Abstract

Three cultural groups of Japanese, Asian Americans, and European Americans were compared in attention and spontaneous trait and situation inferences (STI and SSI). Results suggest that European Americans made more STIs than SSIs, whereas there was no difference between STIs and SSIs among Asian Americans and Japanese.
