Challenging Stereotypes in STEM Increases Racial Agency and Psychological Cohesion for Marginalized Students

Abstract

A diverse community college utilized an intervention to challenge stereotypes of scientists, positively impacting minority students’ sense of racial agency and cohesion. Analysis of the full sample indicates that these outcomes are associated with science identity and interest; maximizing these connections to boost marginalized students’ STEM identity/interest is discussed.
