Abstract

We examined the role of adaptive and maladaptive emotion regulation in the course of distress experienced by both parents and their offspring during a contentious interaction. Findings showed adaptive repertoires predicted less distress while maladaptive repertoires predicted elevated distress levels during the dyadic interaction. Clinical implications will be discussed.
