Your Soul Spills out: The Creative Act Feels Self-Disclosing

Abstract

We examine how those who generate creative ideas feel as though they have revealed something personal. Across five experiments we show this effect is robust, is mediated by self-focus, is enhanced by allowing generation of ideas across categories, and that disclosure is also perceived by those who hear the ideas.
