Abstract

An online survey of 812 American adults provides preliminary evidence against hypothesis that parents have fewer children due to belief that they can control their children life’s outcomes. This suggests that control is either not perceived as particularly costly or that childbearing decisions do not rely on a cost-benefit analysis.
