Abstract

In two studies, we examined if expectations regarding the approval of prescriptive and disapproval of proscriptive behaviors depends on individuals’ moral identities. The more central morality to individuals’ identities the more prescriptive behaviors yielded perceived social approval. Centrality of morality was unassociated with expected disapproval of proscriptive behaviors.
