Abstract
Eight-year-old children (N = 62) completed a divided attention task using hierarchical figures under two conditions: alone, and under the impression their performance would be witnessed by peers. Higher shyness was associated with slower RT in the monitoring condition without increasing in overall accuracy, suggesting inefficient allocation of attentional resources.
