Abstract

Parents’ beliefs about children’s emotions impact the effectiveness of their emotion socialization efforts. This study explored potential predictors of such beliefs, including parental emotional intelligence, emotion regulation strategy use, and flooding. Results identified emotional intelligence and flooding as important predictors for beliefs in the value and danger of emotions, respectively.
