Abstract

The study examined the effect of numerous variables upon party affiliation using ANES data. Results suggest that party-identification, generally, relates to an enduring psychological attachment to a political party, whereas the strength of attachment varies over time. Perception of candidates, policy preferences (some morally-valenced), and presidential approval drive partisan strength.
