Abstract

Prior research suggests that increasing self-compassion may expand social connectedness. However, the mechanisms underlying these effects are unclear. Using a longitudinal design, this study tests primary indicators of emotional functioning as mediators of the self-compassion–social connectedness relationship. Positive, more than negative, emotional functioning mediated the self-compassion–social connectedness link.
