Abstract

This qualitative interview study showed that parents of extremely premature infants at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) have complex psychological needs, including needs for individualized emotional support and the ability to trust the health care provider. Organizational problems impede the NICU and its staff from meeting these needs.
