Abstract

Couples in long-distance relationships engaged in more maintenance behaviors (i.e., positivity, and cards/letters/calls) than couples in geographically-close relationships. Controlling for geographic distance, participants assigned to a communal appraisal condition engaged in more maintenance behaviors overall. Long-distance and geographically-close couples did not differ significantly in level of commitment.
