From Parental Involvement to Adolescents’ School Engagement: Relevance for School As a Mediator

Abstract

We tested a possible cognitive mechanism underlying the relations between parental involvement and adolescents’ school behavioral and affective engagement. Results showed that adolescents’ perception of relevance for school fully mediated the positive effects of parental involvement at home on both positive behaviors in schools and school satisfaction.
