Abstract

Religious belief and practice typically confers protection against suicidal behavior in depression, but not always. In a reanalysis of published data, we found poorer neurocognitive performance by religious individuals that may have negated the benefits of religious belief. Research is needed on the interaction of these risk and protective factors.
