Abstract

Shame is associated with lower psychological openness, lower help-seeking propensity, and is heightened in those with childhood trauma. Shame moderated the relationship between trauma and (1) psychological openness and (2) help-seeking propensity. Lower psychological openness and higher help-seeking propensity were found only in participants with childhood trauma and high shame.
