Subjective and Physiological Changes in Response to Decreased Empathy

Abstract

Effects of decreased empathy were observed through subjective affectivity and physiological changes from vagal activity, measured by respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) responding to a negative mood induction via sad film clip (SF). Lower empathy predicted decreased emotional responses and resting RSA, however, during SF, lower empathy led to RSA augmentation.
