Abstract

Open-ended questions can provide valuable insight on human attitudes, but coding responses is problematic. This study employed two different coding approaches (human v. machine) to analyze students’ open-ended reflections on their creativity. Machine coding added more explanatory power to a linear regression model explaining rating scale responses than human coding.
