Abstract

In two experiments, we tested whether cognitive load increased participants’ tendency to believe explicitly false. We found that participants were inclined to believe explicitly false statements regardless of cognitive load. In a third experiment, we tested and confirmed the hypothesis that this truth-bias is moderated by financial incentives.
