Self-Selected Background Music Has Few Negative Effects on Abstract Thinking and Executive Function Task Performance

An experiment examining abstract thinking and executive functioning skills across three conditions: quiet, randomly-selected music, and self-selected music. Performance between music conditions were not equivalent and only separated from the quiet condition on one of five task measurements. Implications for future experimental designs discussed.
