Abstract

This study explores the relationships among underrepresented STEM students’ academic competence beliefs (growth mindset), their perceptions of competence beliefs held by professors and peers, and their academic and psychosocial well-being during the transition to college. Results suggest that a fixed mindset relates to higher psychosocial stress and lower academic confidence.
