The Effects of Mood Induction on Implicit Racial Bias Towards Perceived Criminality in Black Male Faces

Abstract

148 participants watched one of six mood inducing videos (e.g., affiliation, anger, fear, happy, neutral, and sad) and completed the Guilty/ Not Guilty Implicit Association Test (IAT). Sadness had significantly lower IAT scores compared to fear, happiness, and affiliation. Participants’ over 55 years old also had significantly higher IAT scores.
