Abstract

Students often use ineffective study techniques and are overconfident in their abilities. This project attempted to increase students’ metacognition using certainty-based marking. Results suggest that certainty-based marking motivated students to more accurately gauge their understanding of the material; increased accuracy, as measured by confidence ratings, predicted higher grades.
