Abstract

Flooding is the costliest natural disaster in the United States. The current study developed a paradigm to communicate flood risk information, measure stable individual differences in risk perceptions, and investigate comprehension regarding protective actions (e.g. buying flood insurance). Results indicate that numeracy significantly predicted risk comprehension and subsequent decision quality.
