Abstract

Attunement leads to children developing positive mental representations. When not attuned, suspicions manifest in adult relationships. Defenses against threatening interpersonal interactions, lead to romantic relationship difficulties. Dissociation as link between childhood maltreatment and relationship satisfaction needs further study. Here, dissociation was a mediator, accounting for 23% of the variance.
