Negative Urgency Mediates the Prospective Association between Depressive Symptoms and Problematic Substance Use in the Context of Frequent Stressors

Negative and positive urgency are associated with Bipolar Disorder and Substance Use Disorders, and may underlie stress generation processes. We found a conditional indirect effect such that at high levels of negative life events, negative urgency mediated the relationship between baseline depression and future substance use.
