Prior Military Service Predicts Alcohol Problems and Excessive Force Among First-Year Police Officers

Military veterans are often recruited as police officers but are at increased risk for substance abuse and violence. We examined predictors of substance abuse and violence in officers with and without military experience. History of violence and substance abuse predict similar problems in military veteran officers but not in non-veterans.
