Race and Neighborhood Disorder Associated with Adolescent Alcohol Misuse

Abstract

This cross-sectional study tested associations of race and neighborhood disorder with adolescent drinking. Whites were more likely to initiate drinking than Backs and Asians. After initiation, multiracial adolescents reported less alcohol misuse and Blacks reported more negative alcohol consequences than Whites. Neighborhood disorder were positively associated with post-initiation alcohol misuse.
