Perceptual Tuning to Angular Momentum in Gyroscopes

The haptic perceptual system’s treatment of gyroscopic forces was examined. Participants used rod-mounted gyroscopes as pointers to track an oscillating target on a screen and gradually adapted to the device’s reactive forces. Aftereffects of this adaptation suggest gyroscopes function as “haptic prisms” which alter the reference frame of object forces.
