Abstract
Maternal depressive symptoms (MDS) are associated with child internalizing and externalizing behavior problems, but theory suggests that child attachment security may buffer these effects. In this study of 132 mothers and their children, children who were securely attached were protected from the negative effects of MDS on internalizing problems.
