Abstract

In this experimental study of 311 college women, results indicated that browsing Instagram led to a greater number of social comparisons and greater body dissatisfaction compared to browsing Facebook or to a control. Moreover, participants experienced increased feelings of guilt and shame after browsing Instagram compared to the other conditions.
