Abstract

This study examined whether 197 college students’ self-reports of optimism and self-control were related to depressive symptoms. Both optimism and self-control were independent inverse predictors of depressive symptoms cross-sectionally, and self-control predicted reduced depressive symptoms one month later after controlling for initial depressive symptoms.
