Abstract

This study examined how certain variables can influence the perceptions of altruism. Perceivers responded most favorably when the altruist made a considerable sacrifice, had no ulterior motive, and the act had a significant impact. The effect of motive was less when sacrifice was substantial and the impact was considerable.
