Social Engagement Related to Inferior Verbal Memory in Young Adults

Abstract

Assessments of social and academic engagement and two forms of episodic memory in undergraduates revealed that college students with high levels of social engagement, regardless of academic engagement, performed worse on a word-pair memory test than students with low social engagement. This relationship was not present for a face-name-memory test.
