Capturing Escalation of Commitment across Life Span: An Adaptive Learning Approach

Virtually no theory has been proposed to explain why escalation of commitment rises and falls across life span. The current research fills this gap by explaining it using an adaptive learning approach. It argues that changes in the higher-order mental capacity across life span shapes the developmental pattern of escalation.
