Social Norms Can Persuade Hospital Visitors to Clean Their Hands

Abstract
We aimed to improve hospital visitors’ hand hygiene behavior. Seven posters, designed according to the principles of persuasion, were tested. Four posters showed a significant increase in hand-rub dispenser usage compared to control conditions. The findings indicate that there are extremely cost-efficient methods to improve hospital visitors’ hand hygiene practice.
