Active Goal Maintenance Eliminates the Belief Bias Effect: Implications for Educational Practice

Abstract

When evaluating arguments, learners are susceptible to biases owing to prior beliefs. A well-established paradigm from Stroop Task research was adopted. When the task environment facilitates goal maintenance during logical reasoning, the belief bias effect is eliminated. Educational implications will, in particular, be discussed.
