Abstract

The theoretical literature has proposed that Iranians may somaticize distress. This study investigated gender differences in somatic symptoms in three Iranian samples. Psychiatric patients scored higher on somatic symptoms than college students and the elderly. Females in all samples scored higher than males. Implications for culturally appropriate services are discussed.
