Mass Shooting Media Coverage Activates Concepts of 1st Person Aggression

Abstract

The present study shows that media coverage of a mass shooting that emphasizes details about the shooter (e.g., shooter name) automatically activates concepts of 1st person aggression. This effect may serve as a trigger for at-risk individuals during the contagion period immediately following a mass shooting event.
