Social Media Coverage of School Shootings Serve Fame Seeking Goals during the “Contagion” Period

Abstract
During the two-week “contagion” period following a high-profile school shooting, emotional reactions in social media were strongly associated with spikes in frequencies of posts about the shooter’s name, details, and motive, which may ultimately serve the goals of school shooters who are motivated by a desire for fame.
