Abstract

No human studies have examined effort- and reward-related processes in navigational contexts. 20 participants were subjected to a 3D-navigation task to parse out effort and reward signals in the ventral striatum (VS). Results suggest VS may increase during effortful action initiation, but reflect an effort discounting signal during reward presentation.
