When There Is No Need There Is No Intent: Gender Differences in Emotion Regulation When Dealing with Chronic Diseases

Abstract
Building on TPB, we explore causes of the female inclination to respond positively and of the male inclination to respond ineffectively to normative information in seeking medical help. The emotion regulation strategies of reappraisal and suppression underlie the contrasting strength of normative beliefs and behavioral intentions among men and women.
