Abstract

A coding scheme was developed to examine self-distancing in expressive writing essays of women with metastatic breast cancer. The coding was tested against a Linguistic Inquiry Word Count index as a predictor of future depressive symptoms and emerged as a proxy for self-distancing and unique predictor of subsequent depressive symptoms.
