Abstract

We compared cognitive effects of two meditation methods. OBAM focuses on alertness; body-scan on mindful relaxation. Adult participants were randomly assigned to OBAM, body-scan, or control. Treatment groups meditated daily for three weeks. Practice with either meditation improved scores on a verbal mental-attentional-capacity measure; only OBAM improved visuo-spatial performance.
